Irish Soda Bread

Ingredients:

5 ½ cups flour
3/4 - 1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 ½ teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons caraway seeds
¼ lb. Butter
1 cup raisins
2 ½ cups buttermilk

Directions:

  1. Mix dry ingredients together.
  2. Cut butter into dry ingredients and work it well together.
  3. Add raisins.
  4. Finally add buttermilk.
  5. Grease 2 loaf pans or you can make to round loaves. Cut crosses in top of round loaves, and brush with buttermilk.
  6. Bake in preheated 350 oven for one hour. Remove from oven, cool.

Bread may be wrapped well in foil and frozen.
